Bear's M2 NetMaps
V3 for Marathon 2

MAPS:
This is the third version of my converted maps from the collection of Bear's Killer Net Maps, with more soon to follow. While nothing much has changed besides the updating of textures, scenery, the implementation of media types, and the addition of a few weapons, these are still worthwhile arenas:

The Chris Arena was named after a friend (how did you know his name?) who complained that all the maps were too dark, and he wanted a nice light arena. This is his wish.
Kill Fest, is simply that: get a weapon quick, because guts are going to fly.
High and Low, has some nice balcony and bunker areas, and has some appropriate ambient and random sounds tossed in, because it can now be done.
The Bear Arena is a inside-out version of Waldo World (some 5-D space stuff going on), with more weapons (of course). There is health in here, but unless there are only two guys playing it, going for the health can be dangerous. Also watch out on the top ledges when shooting too far down at an angle, cause you're going to get a bath. Either jump out quickly (minimal damage), or sink to the bottom and teleport out. The trade-off on being up there is its now more difficult to be hit along the ledges, unless you stay right on the edge.
The Bear Arena-King of the Hill is really the same as above, except that health has been removed, and the center column is now a tower as well (a'la, the Hill). Going straight into the teleporters will talk you to the Hill, while the side teleporters take you to the ledges. Other slight visual tweaks.
Trey's Waterworld is a newly created M2 only map, designed by my friend Trey and assembled by both of us. It is not finished and is also buggy. Use the "Ignore Zero Divides" program to fix the type 4 errors. See what you think and send me comments.
Catwalk Fever is by Blimey6 (Blimey6@AOL.Com), a level created for M1, but one I've always loved, so I have updated the textures. This is definately not done, either. Hats off to Blimey6, though, for coming up with a nice use of a catwalk, implementing both original arenas, and keeping the feel of Bungie. Sorry if I upped the weapons a bit (I can't help it, my hands are beyond my control).

None of these levels have had lights set, because for some reason Pfhorte 2.08 doesn't seem to want to let me implement lighting. Any hints? Let me know. I desperately want to get the mood right on these levels. I guess while I'm on the subject, any ideas on setting a game for Kill the Man with the Ball? I see how to place the balls, but what else am I missing? I know its not as fun as Tag, but what the hell, might as well use the maps for as much as possible. And what ever happened to Capture the Flag? Wasn't that going to be a Net game?

Most of these levels are heavily armed with weaponry and ammo. I prefer this over the levels where items are sparse, and the first one to the tozt or missle launcher dominates the game. Here, everyone should be equal in opportunity, with reflexes and skill seperate the living from the flying guts.

Soon I should have more levels updated, with new features added as well. If anyone can point me to a M2 shape editor, I'll release some new textures, weapons, and perhaps even some new creatures.

PHYSICS:
There are three physics models included here, all based on the alien weapon, and for each you only get one shot before the weapon disappears, so use judiciously (and take out as many opponents as possible). They all do massive damage (yes, there is a theme herewhy else are we playing Marathon?) Enjoy:

Wild Alien Weapon shoots a wave of shots, 200 in fact, in a flat line, at about a fifty degree arch. Each shot does quite a bit of damage, so anyone caught in its sight will probably die. It is possible to be missed, though, even standing right in front, so be carefulattempting to use this on someone has a tendency to piss them off.
Suicide Machine isn't really that, unless you are standing too close to a wall, person, etc. This weapon fires 360 rockets in a nice flat line, 360 degrees around the person. Stand in the middle of the room and let go. People WILL die. Also, animation WILL stop (try drawing 360 rockets in a matter of two seconds). This seems to add to the excitement. Again, it is possible to survive.
Nuclear Device gives you two shots: the first one looks like a fusion bolt, but travels very slowly. The other shot also looks like a fusion bolt, but drops to your feet (suicide). On impact, they both explode at twice the power of a rocket and should clear a moderate sized room. Watch for trying to blast off of walls and floors, it doesn't always work the way you expect. Fire and run, you should have time.

Yes, soon I will stop uploading the whole lot of maps and only send out new stuff, but as of yet, these map files are still small enough to do it this way, and some of the earlier levels get tweaks now and again. Let me know what you prefer, groups of maps or maps individually.

And once again, we all owe Steve Israelson a big thanks for keeping us up on the mapping possibilities. This was of course created with Pfhorte (v2.08).

Feel free to upload anywhere, just give me credit. No copyright. No trademarks. No cares. Rip them off at will (the power of the digital age).

Happy Killing
